Vintage fairs and evening fun

i just wanted to share what I got up to last weekend weekend, as it was a delightful time I had.

On Satuday evening i went to Fleur and Bethan’s birthday party. As I have a smashed iphone I couldn’t take any pics while I was there, but I did maange a couple of pics of my outfit before I left.

The skirt is particularly amazing. It is an original 50s items and has an insanely full skirt printed with bows in black and gold. The printing techniques are interesting, with the gold “overprinted” on the surface. I’ve never seen a skirt printed like this before! I wore it with an ancient black topshop blouse that I must have had for 6 years or so!

The night was lovely, particularly because I got to see my friend Jayne (from great lifestyle and beauty blog Jayne’s kitschen) this pic is stolen from her! Jayne and I used to work together back in Leeds over 3 years ago,  it was amazing to get the chance to catch up and shows what a small world it is!

On Sunday it was Farnham Malting vintage fair. Here I had a stall selling some of my vintage wares, particularly popular were the stunning Rhona Roy and Victor Josselyn dresses I had, these will be coming to ebay soon!

The day wasn’t just about selling, it was also about buying. I managed to buy just three items in the end, i was tempted to buy SO much more though. The fair had a great selection of both vintage and homemade items from a real variety of periods too.

The shoes came from another lovely Liz (of thewasherwoman.blogspot.co.uk) she had some of the most sensational shoes I have ever seen. It took great restraint to buy just one pair as they fitted me like a dream.

The hat came from a stall I forgot to take the name of (i think it might have been Carinsbrooke vintage?). The stallholders daughter was also one of the beautiful models in the fashion show.

I also bought this fab Laura Ashley maxi dress from the same stall. It’s an original 70s item and has an amazing hunting look novelty print.

On the day I also gave a talk about collecting, and compered the fashion show. I really enjoyed the day I have to say!

Come and join me at Farnham Maltings on 2nd June

Drum roll * I am excited to make a little announcement on le blog today about a vintage fair I am going to be at!
 
 
Come and join me on the 2nd June for a day of vintage fashion and frolics at Farnhams maltings. Not only will I be giving a little talk and compering the fashion show, but I will also have a stall selling some delightful goodies. I’m trying to make sure I bring a little bit of something for everyone along, and will be coming armed with vintage fashion and accessories from the 30s to the 80s. All carefully selected. I’ll definitely be bringing two sensational 60s suits, some amazing 70s maxis and a few of my old favourite cotton 50s dresses. So do come and say hi! It looks like being a very fun event.
Not only will there be a varied selection of stalls offering the best in vintage, but there are also a number of other events happening through the day including workshops and makeovers.
My stall will probably be something like this! (This was me at the festival of Vintage in Epsom last year)
 
 
Tickets are just £4!
If you see me at the fair do come and say hi! I will be typically attired in a crazy 50s dress- I promise!

A Horrockses housecoat from 1951

A few months back now I purchased an absolutely beautiful Horrockses housecoat from Vintage Vision, the company, based in Abergavenny is a great initiative.

A little background:

So, onto the houescoat itself, this is the stunning piece I purchased, in typical high quality Horrockses cotton. I’m pretty sure it is an Alastair Morton print- it has the “handwriting” of his design style written all over it!  Whilst looking through archive posts on one of my FAVOURITE blogs (http://sheepandchick.blogspot.co.uk/ ) I found an advertisement for my housecoat!!!




Housewife magazine 1951. 

The advertisement even has the original price for the housecoat  £5 17s, a considerable sum equivalent to just over £135 today! F.Y.I a housecoat was a type of dress for lounging in and accepting visitors, it wasn’t a dressing gown as they are sometimes misconstrued as being!
