Summery vintage

At the moment I have some great listings up on both ebay and etsy that will surely set you up for your summer holidays. First off Etsy

Advantage in vintage on Etsy

I’ve been selling off quite a few Horrockses from my collection lately, but this is what I call a classic Liz Horrockses- i.e. blue and white! This dress has totally stunning side contrast details. Size UK 8-10 £125.

I also can’t resist a Sambo fashions dress. I often think these garments produced by manufacturer Samuel Sherman are some of the few that stand up to Horrockses. This lovely number features a bold pink rose print on crisp black cotton with a dropped waist. £75. A uk 10 to 12.

I adore this little green trembling cat brooch- resembling the style of 1940s coro jewellery but a much more modern piece pin it to a vintage dress- the perfect accompaniment to any vintage outfit.

I’ve got four (yes, four!!!) pairs of lovely deadstock sunglasses on offer too. All in delightful “jelly” colours. These original 1950s cats eyes are sure to make you stand out on the beach.

In terms of dresses I have a simply lovely cotton frock on offer too. I jokingly refered to this as my ring a ring of roses dress (the print is roses and rings in a pretty sketchy style). Could be a great all year round dress as I think this would be fab teamed with tights too.

Piggin’ out…

Me? Write a food post? Never…
(Don’t worry, there’s pretty dresses too ; ) )

Yesterday was my Mum’s 50th birthday, which meant time for a family celebration. We jaunted off to sample the food at The Pig, located in Hampshire’s beautiful New Forest.

The Pig offers what they call a “25 mile menu” they source as much as possible from their kitchen garden and what they can’t source from there is produced locally- within 25 miles. The menu offers a delightful selection of dishes from glorious tender steaks, to fresher than fresh fish. There are also plenty of vegetarian options. the menu with its various size dishes means it will cater to your appetite however big (or small!).

I went for the hake with pancetta and sea kale served with a pea broth. It was delicious, the freshness of the pea perfectly complimented the rich saltiness of the fish and pancetta. The meal was not too heavy- a perfect lunch time dish (I’ll admit I did steal some of my mum’s amazing chips- the perfect crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside combo). As you can see from my pic all dishes came beautifully presented- adding that little extra to the meal (milk for tea and coffee came in adorable mini milk churns.)

The selection of deserts on offer was lovely too- again offering a selection of gut busting or light deserts. I chose the white chocolate pot with pickled gooseberries and shortbread. DIVINE. I can normally take or leave gooseberries, but these perfect cut through the sweetness of the white chocolate meaning that it was not too much.

As it was my Mum’s birthday the staff at the pig gave my mum a special pig shaped happy birthday biscuit, and there was complimentary fizz too- A nice added touch.

In my opinion though, the best thing about the Pig has to be the ambiance. The restaurant, decked out like a Victorian greenhouse garden has a really chilled out relaxed feel to it.

My verdict? A definite ten out of ten. Excellent food, great service and a lovely setting. The Pig is also a hotel…it is safe to say I want to stay there now!

We took a few pictures in the reception area and outside… my dress is a 1958 Horrockses, one of my really special pieces of vintage.
